At S R Drinnan Opticians we specialise in high quality eye care and endeavour to make your experience with us one that you’ll never forget.

But rather than bore you with how great we are, we want to tell you a little bit about our journey so far.

Practice owner and optometrist Stephen Drinnan qualified as an Optometrist from Manchester University in 1977. After a few years of gaining valuable experience working for both multiple chains of Opticians and small independents, he decided to start his own practice, opening his first branch in Llangollen in March 1982.

Initially, he worked alone with the help of only one receptionist, until September 1982, when he expanded the business by taking over a well-established Opticians practice in Willow Street, Oswestry. This practice had been originally established in 1948 by Mr Clenyg Llewellin as a Chemist/Optician. Both practices grew and flourished resulting in further staff appointments. The third Practice was set up in Ellesmere 1990.

Stephen said: “From starting the Llangollen practice from scratch, then taking over the Oswestry practice both in 1982, we decided after 10 years to establish a third practice in Ellesmere and share our experiences.

“Our team has a huge amount of experience in the field, working in various Optometrists and Optical chains before joining our team. Our dispensing opticians have more than 72 years’ experience between them while our optometrists share 90 years’ experience.”

Stephen’s wife Nonna is also a qualified optician and has a special interest in Dyslexia.

Nonna explained: “I left the teaching profession to help Stephen with the running of the three practices and became a qualified optician after re-training in Optics.

“I specialise in testing for Scotopic Sensitivity and I love meeting new people who visit our practice. When you visit your local optician you want to feel at home and that’s what we want to achieve across all three of our practices.”
